Karnataka: RK Dutta to take charge tomorrow

Senior police officers have welcomed Mr Dutta's appointment.

Bengaluru: The newly appointed Director General and Inspector General of Police, Rupak Kumar Dutta, will assume office on February 1. He will take over charge from the outgoing police chief Om Prakash on Tuesday, who will demit office on superannuation after a 36-year-long career in the IPS.

Mr Dutta is the former special secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, and special director, Central Bureau of Investigation. He is the senior most IPS officer in Karnataka. He has a nine-month tenure and will retire on October 31.

Senior police officers have welcomed Mr Dutta’s appointment. “He is the senior-most IPS officer and deserves to head the police department,” said some officers.
