The bench has also directed hospitals to adhere to the norms of Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016, which prohibit the use of chlorinated plastic bags, gloves and blood bags within two years.
BENGALURU: Karnataka State Pollution Control Board Chairman Lakshman has directed all the health care units in the city to segregate bio-medical waste and hand over the same to common bio-medical waste disposing units. He expressed concern that many units were not taking precautions.
There are 25 common bio-medical waste disposing units in the state. The board has also called for use of non-chlorinated plastic bags while disposing waste.
KSPCB also wants all bio-medical waste disposal units to install equipment to continuously monitor wastes online. They must be in place within 30 days and connected to a common server.
