CM Stalin visits flood-hit spots for the 4th week

Stalin distributed relief material to the affected people

Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin, who has been out on the streets since November 7, overseeing the relief operations carried out by the various agencies to bring succor to the people affected by the floods, visited various places in Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts on Monday morning and in Kolathur Assembly constituency in the afternoon.

Besides urging the officials to expedite the work being carried out in the various places on a war footing, Stalin distributed relief material to the affected people. In many places the relief materials were organized by DMK functionaries to enable the affected people to tide over their woes.

As news of the Chief Minister’s convoy splashing through the waters in their district spread, people of Jothi Nagar in Chengalpattu district wanted him to pay a visit to their locality. Stalin obliged them, oversaw the ongoing relief work and instructed the authorities to speed up the operations.

Otherwise, in Chengalpattu district he inspected relief work at Mudichur, Tambaram, Vaniyamkulam and Irumbuliyur. Those were the places that were hit by the floods and work was on to clear the water.

He also visited some relief camps and spoke to the people who had taken refuge there. In Kanchipuram district 930 persons have been provided shelter in 25 camps and in Chengalpattu districts 2,313 persons are in 44 camps. Among the places he visited in Kanchipuram district was Varadharajapuram.

Apart from providing three meals a day to those living in the camps, the government has also made arrangements for providing them clear water, besides arranging for health check up with a view to preventing the spread of water-borne diseases during the rainy season.

Health camps are also held for people not in the relief camps and Stalin visited some of them when he went around the areas under Kolathur Assembly constituency. He enquired with the doctors about the treatment being given to the affected people and also interacted with the public.

Among the places he visited in Kolathur area are Paper Mills Road, Theeti Thotam, Rajaji Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Kumaran Nagar, Unnamalai Street, Srinagar Colony, Poompuhar Nagar, Retteri Ambedkar Nagar, Shanti Nagar, Durga Colony and Nethaji Nagar.

The Chief Minister also inspected the renovation work being carried out at the Thanikachalam Canal and spoke to the people about the relief operations. In Retteri, the local people were happy over the manner in which the relief work was being done.
