Uneasy calm over Livitiput

The residents of Livitiput are scared to speak with strangers, suspecting all new faces to be either police or Maoists.

Visakhapatnam: Two months after the gunning down of Araku MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former legislator Siveri Soma, an uneasy calm prevails in Livitiput, the tiny tribal hamlet under Dumbriguda mandal in Vizag Agency, where the TD leaders were killed by Maoists. The residents of Livitiput are scared to speak with strangers, suspecting all new faces to be either police or Maoists.

“We don’t know what exactly happened on that day and we don’t know why the Annalu (Maoists) killed the MLAs (Kidari and Soma),” was the only answer from the villagers of Livitiput.

“The single incident spoiled the image of our hamlet as we have been branded supports of Maoists and anti-social elements. Though we are innocents and were unaware about the Maoists’ plan, cops suspect that we played a key role in providing shelter and food to Maoists for a couple of days before the attack,” says S. Sanjeev a native of Livitiput.

Recalling the bloodbath, S. Nirmala, a housewife, said that fear still grips the children and women in the village. “No one in the village visits the spot where the TD leaders were found lifeless,” she said.

“Nothing is permanent but it takes some time to forget the incident. We are praying for peace of mind and strength to us to overcome the uncertain conditions,” said some youngsters.

Livitiput has around 20 to 25 families and most of them are farmers.
