Hyderabad: Man in shared van dies as SUV rams it at ORR

Owner of SUV who fled the scene of accident traced.

Hyderabad: A 33-year-old man who boarded a shared pick-up van which was carrying milk cans from Nalgonda to reach LB Nagar died in a road mishap when an SUV rammed into pick-up van truck causing it to crash sideways at ORR under Abdullapurmet police station limits on Thursday morning.

The other passengers in the vehicle sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment.

“The victim has been identified as Pathangi Chandrashekar Chary, 33, a resident of Sunkenpally village of Chityala mandal in Nalgonda district,” said the Abdullapurmet police.

The police added that he is a carpenter and travels to and from the city every day in shared vehicles.

“On Thursday at about 8 am, he left his home and got into a pick-up van at Gundrampally village on National Highway-65, which was heading towards Hastinapuram.

When the vehicle reached Balijaguda Crossroads at ORR, Pedda Amberpet, an SUV (AP 28 AN 2345), driven in a rash and

negligent manner rammed their van,” said Abdullapurmet sub-inspector, G. Uday Kiran.

“Chary received head injuries as the milk cans fell on him and he died on the spot,” Mr Uday Kiran added.

The driver of the pick-up sustained minor injuries. The SUV sped away from the scene of accident.

It was registered in the name of one Rajendhar Dasari which also had challans worth Rs 2,745 pending.

The violations included jumping signals, obstructing zebra crossings and overspeeding.

Based on a complaint from Chandrashekar’s relative, Panthangi Madhana Chary, a case was booked with the Abdullapurmet police under Section 304-A (death by negligence) of IPC and an investigation was initiated.

“We have traced the SUV owner’s cellphone, which is currently switched off. We will soon place him under arrest,” the sub-inspector concluded.
