Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has suggested that the Centre take steps to protect the Ramappa temple located in Jayashankar Bhupalapalli district. The Archeological Survey of India (ASI) on Wednesday assured the court that it would start work to repair the east side wall of the temple which was damaged during rains. A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice G. Shyam Prasad was dealing with a taken-up PIL based on the letter by Justice P. Naveen Rao who had written about the threat to Kakatiya-era temple due to improper maintenance.
Earlier, the bench directed the ASI to file a report on the steps taken to maintain the temple. Assistant solicitor-general K. Lakshman told the court that the main temple was intact and some portion of the east wall had got damaged. The ASI had prepared estimates for repairing the wall and to maintain the temple.
He said that a team from National Institute Technology at Warangal, consisting of senior professors had visited the temple and submitted a report to the ASI for the restoration of the damaged wall and maintenance of the temple. While recording the statement, the bench directed the ASI to file an affidavit explaining the steps being taken to protect the temple based on the report of the engineers team by December 12.
