World Bank fund to upgrade all hospitals in Andhra Pradesh

Rs 3,000 crore to turn GGH into multi-speciality hospital.

Kakinada: Medical and health minister Dr. Kamineni Srinivas on Saturday said all government hospitals in the state will be upgraded and Kakinada Government General Hospital will be turned into a multi-specialty hospital using a World Bank funding of Rs 3,000 crore. He revealed the plans while reviewing the progress at GGH here.

The minister pointed out that the hospital was responsible for both East and West Godavari districts and its out-patient count had increased from 1,800 to over 3,000 daily. He also lauded the efforts of superintendent Dr. Y. Nageswara Rao and district collector H. Arunkumar for improving hygiene at the hospital and making it more patient-friendly. He said new surgical and medical blocks would be constructed by demolishing the 60-year-old blocks.

The minister told the district collector to remove encroachments for construction of the MCH buildings and added that a multi-storied building would be constructed in the place of existing TB ward. The minister also said a special hostel would be constructed for the medicos and nurses in the existing place. He added that a CT scan machine would be sanctioned and the numbers of beds for patients would be increased in the hospital. Rajahmundry Urban legislator Dr. Akula Satyanarayana, Anaparti, MLA Dr. N. Ramakrishna Reddy and others were present at the event.
