New tax system to reduce burden on people, says FM

Mr Ramakrishnudu said a collection target of Rs 52,000 crore has been set in the 2016-17 fiscal for commercial taxes.

Visakhapatnam: State finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said here on Monday that a new tax system would be introduced in Andhra Pradesh from the next financial year to “reduce the burden” on the people.

Talking to the media after inaugurating a new building for the deputy commissioner of commercial taxes at Chinagadili, Mr Ramakrishnudu said a collection target of Rs 52,000 crore has been set in the 2016-17 fiscal for commercial taxes, the main source of income for the state. Of this, Rs 40,000 crore was earmarked for social welfare schemes. He urged the people to be more tax compliant. However, they would see that their tax burden was reduced in the new policy from next year. The state would apply pressure on the Union Government for more support while rationalising taxes.

Mr Ramakrishnudu said the state government has been making all efforts to set up its own buildings for various departments as a majority of the offices were running from rented buildings.

Stating that AP was facing a deficit of Rs 17,000 crore, he said online system has been streamlined and there was no need for people to go to offices for paying the taxes.
