Hyderabad: Parents protest over transfer certificates

Members of a few social organisations and student unions extended their support.

Hyderabad: Demanding re-admission for 27 pupils, parents of Amrita Vidyalayam students began a hunger strike in front of the school at Mahindra Hills on Wednesday. Members of a few social organisations and student unions extended their support.

Police arrived at the spot and shifted parents and protesters to the Bolaram police station. Angry at being shifted as they were holding a democratic protest, parents continued their fast in police station.

In the evening, police officials told the protesters to go back to their homes but they were unwilling. Police warned them that they could be shifted to the Gandhi Hospital.

The 27 students were issued transfer certificates by the school management a few weeks ago. Parents have alleged that the school was taking revenge for raising their voice against indiscriminate fee hikes.
