Bengaluru: Showers throw traffic out of gear

City has witnessed 182 mm rainfall since the beginning of this month.

Bengaluru: The city on Wednesday witnessed continuous rainfall from 8.30 am till 2.30 pm amounting to 2.7mm rainfall, while a 4.6mm rainfall was witnessed from Tuesday night till Wednesday 8.30 am. While the rainfall did not create any major damage, slow moving traffic was reported in many areas across the city, causing problems to commuters and school going children.

Many areas in the city witnessed slow moving traffic including Mysore bank circle towards Majestic on KG road, Shanthala junction towards Cottonpete main road, KR circle towards Hudson circle on Nrupathunga road and Minerva circle towards Town Hall on JC Road and Anepalya junction towards Vellara junction, Lalbagh West gate towards Town Hall junction, Jayadeva junction towards Silk board junction, Arakere junction from Meenakshi temple on BG road, Adugodi Police station Towards Silk board, Deve Gowda Petrol bunk junction towards Nayandanahalli junction, Muneshwara temple stop from Lakkasandra bus stop, Ibluru from HSR Layout bridge, Ramurthinagar Bridge towards K R Puram, Benniganahalli Bus stop from NGEF, ORR due to rain and many more areas. The BBMP officials said that a tree got uprooted in Koramanagala 7th main.

Rains till July 5
According to the Met department officials, the city has witnessed 182 mm rainfall since the beginning of this month and the city has so fare experienced an annual rainfall of 37 cm. However, the weather report data for the month of June shows that the city has witnessed 228.2mm rainfall in the year 1996, while the second highest was 204.6mm in 2009, thereby making 2016 the third highest (182mm).

The department's extended forecast says that the city will experience rainfall and thunderstorm till July 5 and the minimum temperature would be around 20 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 28 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the Met department has issued warnings in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada due to heavy to very heavy rainfall in 48 hours.
