Cauvery fallout: Kaala not to be screened in the Karnataka?

Previously, Baahubali 2 faced a similar situation following actor Sathyaraj's comments on the Cauvery issue.

Bengaluru: Even as Superstar Rajnikanth's most awaited Tamil movie-Kaala's theatrical trailer was released officially, announcing the world wide release of the film on June 7, it faced hurdles in the State with pro-Kannada organisations including Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce expressing disapproval over the actor's statement regarding the Cauvery issue. The Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce Tuesday decided not to allow screening of his movie Kaala.

The KFCC chairman Sa Ra Govind has reportedly said that several pro-Kannada organisations have written to the chamber expressing displeasure over Rajinikanth’s statement on the Cauvery issue, and have urged not to allow the screening of the film in the state.

While the chamber and the organisations have expressed dissatisfaction against Rajinikanth and as well as Kamal Hassan citing that their statements have hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas over Cauvery issue, there has been no official stand taken on the matter relating to the release of the film in the State.

It is said that the organisations will make their stand clear along with the body on the matter in the coming days.

Previously, Baahubali 2 faced a similar situation following actor Sathyaraj's comments on the Cauvery issue. Later, the actor had to tender an apology following which the Kannada groups allowed the screening of the film.

The film industry is upset with Rajinikanth's reported statement that whichever government comes to power in Karnataka should implement the Supreme Court order on Cauver ywater sharing in toto.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had recently asked the actor to visit the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam to see the status of water level before passing any comments.

The film star has often faced the wrath of pro-Kannada organisations for his comments on Cauvery issue. The actor has a great fan following in Karnataka, especially Bengaluru and Kolar where there is a sizable Tamil population.
