Bengaluru: Hail Ola, Uber after landing at KIA

Commuters are having an easier time of it as KIA has provided parking space to both Ola and Uber.

Bengaluru: Till few days ago, returning from the Airport to Bengaluru city was a tough task. Getting an Ola or Uber cab wasn’t possible and the only option was to wait in a long queue for an Airport taxi or the BMTC buses.

The latter are not a feasible option for passengers with multiple luggage. But now relief has arrived. Commuters are having an easier time of it as KIA has provided parking space to both Ola and Uber.

But all is not well. Traditional taxi operators are miffed and are demanding immediate termination of the agreements between the cab aggregators and KIA.

K Radha Krishna Holla, General Secretary of Bangalore Tourist Taxi Owners’ Association, points out, “On one hand the government is saying they are violators of the transport act and on the other hand they are being provided with parking space. Their applications for licenses are still not accepted, then how can they be given such privileges? We have written to the head of KIA and also met him to discuss these issues. What if some untoward incident happens? Who will take the responsibility? This is very wrong. They have not got the necessary permits till now.”

He added, “The head of KIA told us that since they have not got the license from the transport department, KIA have not given counters to either Ola or Uber at the airport, but they have allowed a public parking space for them. How justifiable is that?”
