Rajnath Singh assures Uttarakhand help to douse forest fire

The Home Ministry has already sent teams of National Disaster Response Force to help the state administration control the forest fire.

New Delhi: As major forest fires engulfed parts of Uttarakhand, the Centre on Saturday assured the state government all assistance to douse the fire and those affected by it.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul regarding the incidents of forest fires in the state and reviewed the situation.

During the telephonic talk, Singh assured the Governor of providing all necessary assistance to the state to control the forest fires and help in containing the damage, official sources said.

The Home Ministry has already sent teams of National Disaster Response Force to help the state administration control the forest fire.

Uttarakhand is under President's rule and the Governor is the administrative head.

Major forest fires raged today across Uttarakhand even as three teams of NDRF were deployed in Almora, Gauchar and Pauri and one team of SDRF in Nainital to extinguish the flames.

Since the beginning of forest fire incidents in the state in early February this year, 922 incidents have occurred so far killing six people including three women and a child, in separate incidents, injuring seven and blighting nearly 2,000 hectares of green cover.
