46 injured in UP train derailment discharged from hospital

Kanpur: Of the 62 people admitted to hospitals in Kanpur after being injured in the derailment of Sealdah-Ajmer Express, 46 have been discharged while the six-year-old girl, who suffered serious head injury, has been operated upon successfully.

Shreya, who was admitted to Hallet Hospital in Kanpur after suffering serious head injury was operated upon and the procedure was successful, CMO Ramayan Prasad said.

The girl, a resident of Tollygunge in West Bengal, was injured when the 15 coaches of the Sealdah-Ajmer Express derailed while it was crossing a bridge near Rura Railway Station in Kanpur Rural district on Thursday.

Pieces of her skull had inserted the brain. The operation was conducted last night and she is now in ICU, Prasad said.

Following the derailment of the Sealdah-Ajmer Express on Wednesday, 42 of the injured were admitted at Mati district hospital in Kanpur (Rural), while 20 seriously injured were undergoing treatment at the Hallet hospital.

The CMO said, all those who were admitted at Mati district hospital has been discharged today, while 16, including Shreya, are still undergoing treatment at Hallet Hospital.

Prasad said treatment and medicines are being provided free of charge to the injured as per Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's direction.
