Thiruvananthapuram: Many engineering colleges in the state have not allowed the outgoing B.Tech batch to reappear for the oral part of the comprehensive examinations. Following this, the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University has asked the colleges to conduct the oral part of the comprehensive exam for 2015-19 B.Tech students who are in grade F (failed).
The notification issued by V. Suresh Babu, controller of examinations, said the colleges can conduct the oral examinations before September 20.
The pass percentages for the B.Tech examinations announced in July are as follows: Government colleges: 50.9, aided colleges: 56.5, government-controlled self-financing colleges: 40.9, private self-financing engineering colleges: 32.1. The university had earlier decided to give another chance to B.Tech students who do not complete their degree for want of credits for just one course. The students who completed eight semesters will be allowed to complete one more course by attending a conduct course.
The B. Tech curriculum has a minimum of 180 academic credits and two additional pass and fail credits for awarding the degree. Credits are assigned to courses based on the following general pattern: One credit for each lecture hour per week for one semester; one credit for each tutorial hour per week for one semester; one credit for each laboratory and practical session of one or three hours per week for one semester. In a semester, up to six lecture-based courses and two laboratory or practical courses, carrying a maximum credit of 26, can be offered.
