Vijayawada: Roads expanded, but no place for parking

Several roads are already widened but vehicles owners are utilising the expanded roads visibly for parking their vehicles.

Vijayawada: The lack of parking places across the city has now turned into a big challenge to state government though the roads are being expanded by spending huge funds.

Several roads are already widened but vehicles owners are utilising the expanded roads visibly for parking their vehicles. The state government’s main aim of removing unauthorised parking has not been fulfilled.

The citizens demand the officials to make arrangements to provide parking areas also as part of road development works.

Presently, the state government is spending almost Rs 3,000 crore for city development in view of forthcoming Krishna Pushkaralu. A majority of the funds have been allotted for road projects.

Already, several roads like Autonagar 100-feet road, Gurunanak Road, Singhnagar Road, Pantakaalva Road, Sambamurthy Road and some other roads have been widened under the city beautification project. The officials of the local body concentrated along with roads and buildings department staff on roads expansion.

All the on-going road works are visibly drawing the attention of citizens. Almost 40 feet to 60 feet space is additionally added for the existing roads. But contrary to development plans, the unauthorised parking of vehicles hit the aim of roads expansion plan.

The local authorities and police department also turned a blind eye on the illegal parking. K. Srinu, an auto driver of Christurajapuram, said that there is no parking place to stop the vehicles

“If suppose, I want to go to a shop, where can I park my auto.? The other vehicle owners also have parking problem,” he added.

K. Srinivasa Rao, an employee in a private engineering company, said that the government should provide parking places across the state. He said that already parking slots are available in various places but they are being neglected due to lack of awareness.
