Bengaluru: Flat develops cracks, 75 told to evacuate

There are around 25 flats in the apartment. A multi-floor, software company office complex is being constructed next to the building.

BENGALURU: Over 75 residents of an apartment have been told to vacate their houses for three days as the building has developed cracks because of construction works in an adjacent site.

The residents of Sree Utopia Apartment at Kariyammana Agrahara near Kadubeesanahalli have approached civic agencies after cracks developed on the premises and basement of the apartment on Saturday.

There are around 25 flats in the apartment. A multi-floor, software company office complex is being constructed next to the building.

A safety wall had been constructed to contain damage to the apartment, but because of heavy rains throughout the week, the wall collapsed and also caused cracks in the apartment on Saturday.

The worried residents brought it to the notice of the police and BBMP. On Sunday morning, DCP of Whitefield division M. Narayan and BBMP officials visited the spot. After the inspection, the BBMP officials directed the contractor who is carrying out the construction to take necessary steps to avert further damage to the apartment.

As a precautionary measure, the residents have been told to vacate their flats for 3-4 days till repair works are carried out.
