2 Chennai students score 492 in CBSE class 12 exam

Aditya Vavre, who secured the 97th rank in JEE (Main) exam, wants to pursue Computer Science branch in IIT Bombay.

CHENNAI: Two city students — P. Sundar Raman from Chettinad Vidyashram and Aditya Vavre from Maharishi Vidya Mandir School — have secured 492 out of 500 marks in CBSE class 12 examinations, the results of which were declared on Sunday.

Among the 10 regions of CBSE, Thiruvananthapuram topped with a pass percentage of 95.62 per cent, followed by Chennai (92.60 per cent) and Delhi (88.37 per cent) regions.

Both the city toppers want to pursue computer science in IIT. “I am confident of getting a high rank in JEE (Advanced) exam. I want to pursue computer science in IIT Madras,” said Sundar Raman. He secured full marks in computer science, Chemistry and Maths.

Aditya Vavre, who secured the 97th rank in JEE (Main) exam, wants to pursue Computer Science branch in IIT Bombay. He also secured full marks in Chemistry and Computer Science.

R. Ramya from Modern Senior Secondary School has got 491 marks. She said she plans to become an air hostess or a mechanical engineer.

The overall pass percentage witnessed a slight dip from 83.05 per cent in 2016 to 82.02 in 2017. As usual, the girls have done better than the boys by 9.5 per cent. Among girls, 87.50 per cent cleared the exam while only 78 per cent of the boys cleared.

The board’s decision to continue with the moderation policy has resulted in 63,247 students securing marks above 90 per cent this year. The number of students securing 95-100% marks also increased to 10,091 from 9,351 last year.

Raksha Gopal from Noida, who scored 498 marks topped the plus-2 exam. Bhumi Sawant, Aditya Jain and Mannat Luthra have secured next two positions with the scores of 497 and 496 marks respectively. In the differently abled category, M.V. Dharshana from Krishnagiri secured the third position at the national level with 483 marks.
