Hyderabad: Spilling sewer irks Jalpally residents

Swarms of mosquitoes descend into the houses at night creating panic in the neighbourhoods,” woman complained.

Hyderabad: The overflow of drains has become a major problem for the residents of some of the colonies in the Shaheennagar area, in the southern side of the city.

The residents point out that the problem has become perennial for past six months, with the local officials of the Jalpally municipality caring little to address their issues.

Mohd Tahseen, a local resident of Osmanagar, said that since the past six months the drainage near Khalid Bin Walid - Osmanagar, was overflowing, yet the authorities did not bother to redress their grievance.

“A foul smell emanates from the overflowing drain and causes a lot of inconvenience to the families. The namazis heading to the mosque face a lot of problems. We had informed the Jalpally municipal commissioner Saber Ali, several times, yet no action has been initiated,” complained Yousuf Patel, a local resident.

A woman complained that drain water stagnates for days until some locals themselves make way for it to flow down the road into the open plots at the end of the colonies. “Till then, the water stagnation points turn into mosquito-breeding grounds. Swarms of mosquitoes descend into the houses at night creating panic in the neighbourhoods,” she complained.

When contacted, Mr Saber Ali said that the government would soon take up civic works in the colonies and soon new sewage pipelines works would be taken up.
