Mystery over Rs 7 crore Osmania University fund

The amount was meant to clear dues accumulated by students between 2005 and 2014.

Hyderabad: An Osmania University student organisation, in a written complaint, has alleged that a Rs 7-crore sum, meant to be paid towards mess dues of the university, has gone missing.

The amount was meant to clear dues accumulated by students between 2005 and 2014. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had last year, prior to the Warangal bypoll, said the state government had approved clearing of mess dues to the tune of Rs 7 crore and the CM’s office had even released an official note about the nod.

But Manavata Roy, chairman of the Unemployed Students JAC, claims, “The Chief Minister said the money had been released. When we went to the Registrar’s office, we were told that the Telangana government had cleared the mess dues. But when we went to our college to get our certificates and marksheets we were told that our mess dues are still pending. So where did the money go? That is why we are alleging the money has gone missing.”

The JAC has been asking the Telangana governme-nt to deliver on two major promises by the Chief Minister — of one lakh jobs and payment of mess dues of OU students for their role during the Telangana state agitation. However, as both the promises remain unfulfilled there have been regular protests in the university.
