After a 10-year gap, BBMP Deputy Mayor to present administrative report

The council, headed by the Congress-JD(S) coalition, placed the administration report for 2006-07 and 2012-13, sources said.

Bengaluru: For the first time after nearly a decade, an administrative report will be presented in the BBMP Council on Monday by Deputy Mayor Hemalatha Gopalaiah.

The council, headed by the Congress-JD(S) coalition, is placing the administration report for 2006-07 and 2012-13, highlighting the lapses that have taken place during the BJP regime, sources said.

Though the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) Act 1976 mandates that the administrative report should be presented annually by the Deputy Mayor and it should be discussed threadbare, it has been ignored.

The administrative report is normally a tool for the ruling party to either defend its administration or to counter the opposition, sources said.

The report will be prepared by officials from the statistical and accounts department. It will list the department-wise performance or lapses. It will, for example, contain the projects taken up by the engineering department, money spent and auditing, if any, of financial lapses or scams.

The department-wise findings will be discussed for at least three days, the sources said. Ms Gopalaiah said that the report will be released on Monday and the discussion will begin on March 9.

After the term of the council came to an end in 2005, the BJP was at the helm of power in the state. It imposed the administrator rule for three years in BBMP.

Later, during the BBMP polls, the BJP formed the council and ruled from 2009 to 2014. Since the administrative report corresponds to 2006-07 and 2012-13, the report will try to dissect the administration during the BJP regime.
