Vijayawada: Preparations for Metro in earnest

SP Tucker has directed four govt agencies to initiate the process of laying of alternative roads, keeping in view the proposed Metro works.

Vijayawada: Chief Secretary S.P. Tucker has directed four government agencies to initiate the process of laying of alternative roads, keeping in view the proposed Metro Rail works scheduled from this April. In a High-Powered Committee meeting convened recently at the Secretariat, the APCRDA, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, R&B and Irrigation departments have been advised to complete laying of alternative roads before April to address traffic jams.

The HPC meeting recommended developing of three roads of six km and nine bridges by the VMC, three roads of 10.35 km by CRDA, four roads of 18.9 km by the R&B and one 12-km road by the Irrigation department. Since two important roads NH-5 and NH-9 pass through the city, the Amaravati Metro Development Corporation said that works may start on these two roads in April. Mr Tucker directed the government agencies to develop alternative roads that have been identified by the police, for diversion of traffic.

The 3 km-long HT power line road from Pantakalva to Ramavarappadu Ring, the 2 km-long Skew Bridge to Yanamalakuduru Donka, the 1 km-long Mahanadu road from Bellamvari Street to the NH, three bridges crossing Bunder canal at Yanamalakuduru, Gulzar Bridge and YVR Hospital, two limited height subways at Wambay Colony, four canal crossing bridges at Police Control Room and Tummalapalli Kshetraiah Kalakshetram, the 4 km-long Mahanadu to Poranki-Nidamanauru 100 feet road, the 3 km-long Ayush Hospital-New Auto Nagar Road via Currency Nagar, 2.35 km-long Pantakalva road to New Auto Nagar Road, and work on lighting of the 4 km-long 100 feet New Auto Nagar Road has to be completed before April, Mr Tucker said.

Similarly, the HPC meeting directed the widening of the 12 km long Vijayawada-Vissannapeta road, 5 km-long Nuzvid–Gannavaram road, 1.9 km-long Bellamvariveedhi road from Auto Nagar with one bridge, strengthening of Shabad-Jakkampudi road and a new bridge.
