Vetrivel moves Madras High Court for bail

The matter is likely to be heard by the vacation court on Thursday.

Chennai: After principal sessions court dismissed the anticipatory bail petition of P. Vetrivel, a disqualified MLA and loyalist of the AIADMK (Amma) deputy general secretary, TTV Dhinakaran, has approached the Madras high court seeking anticipatory bail apprehending arrest in connection with cases registered against him for releasing video footage containing hospitalisation of former CM J. Jayalalithaa.

Two cases were registered against him for violating the model code of election for releasing the video shortly prior to the RK Nagar bypoll. In the first, on a complaint from the then returning officer of the of Dr RK Nagar Assembly byelection for violation of poll code and the provisions of the Representation of People Act, the New Washermenpet police registered a case against Vetrivel.
In the second, on a complaint from the Justice A. Arumughaswamy Commission of Inquiry, the Anna Square police station registered a case against him for committing offences under Sections 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), 176 (omission to give notice or information to a public servant by a person legally bound to give it), 177 (furnishing false information) and 189 (threatening public servant) of the IPC.
On December 22, his anticipatory bail plea was dismissed by the Principal Sessions Court.

Following this, he has approached the Madras High Court seeking the bail.
According to him the timing of the release had nothing to do with the RK Nagar by-poll. However, the police registered a case against him. The matter is likely to be heard by the vacation court on Thursday.
