Farmers set CM January-end deadline

Farmers camping in Bengaluru marched to Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum seeking immediate resolution of the row.

Bengaluru/ Hubballi: On a day when North Karnataka witnessed a near total bandh to press for the demand that BJP-ruled Goa release Mahadayi river water to parched districts in the region, farmers camping in Bengaluru marched to Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum seeking immediate resolution of the row.

The farmers have set January end as the deadline for the state government to fix an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi and impress upon him the need to call a meeting of CMs of Mahadayi basin states to sort out the issue. They also called on the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer and urged him not to hold Assembly elections till a solution is found. President of the Samiti, Veeresh Sobaradmutt said they were returning home after holding the five-day agitation in Bengaluru and will continue their stir in north Karnataka.

Meanwhile, BJP workers led by Udupi MP Shobha Karandlaje and former Deputy CM R. Ashok laid siege to the KPCC office in Bengaluru demanding that the party's leadership convince its Goa unit to find a solution.
