Stand on Telangana Wakf poll sought

The judge while issuing notices told counsel for the government to file a counter affidavit.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday asked the Telangana state government to spell out its stand by Monday on a petition seeking to declare its action as contravening the provisions of the Waqf Act and Election Rules including the process of conducting elections for the Telangana State Wakf Board as illegal.

Justice S.V. Bhatt was dealing with a petition by city resident Mohammed Khairul Hasan seeking that elections be held by following the rules, regulations, laws relating to Wakf including the AP State Wakf Board Conduct of Election Rules 1996.

Mr Avinash Desai, counsel for the petitioner, said there were several procedural and statutory irregularities in the election notification issued by the Telangana government and there were several anomalies in the electoral rolls prepared by the Wakf Board.
