Hyderabad: Police zeroes in on robbery gang

Two held in Gujarat after gun battle.

Hyderabad: While investigating into the case of an armed robbery attempt at a jewellery store in Keesara, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad about two months ago, the Rachakonda police found that the gang involved in the attempt hailed from Madhya Pradesh and was earlier involved in the manufacturing and peddling of drugs.

The Madhya Pradesh gang headed by one Brij Bhushan Pandey had attempted to steal gold from RS Rathore Jewellery store located at Dammaiguda in Keesara on Sept. 18 this year. However, their attempt was unsuccessful when there was an outcry from the public, but the gang opened fire into the air while fleeing and also robbed a bike in a bid to escape. In the hurry to escape, the robbers dropped a fully loaded gun near the store.

The CCTV cameras in the store caught the gun-point robbery attempt which helped the Rachakonda police to get the images of two persons. The same was shared with the police of other states to get more information about the criminals.

The police found that the gang was involved in several robberies and kidnappings in UP, MP and Gujarat.

The previous criminal record of the gang in Telangana came to light after Brij Bhushan Pandey and Shashi Pandey were caught in a joint operation by the Bharuch and Vadodara police following a gun battle at their hideout in Ankleshwar town in Gujarat on Nov. 5.

A senior police official from Rachakonda said, “Two of the gang members were caught by the Gujarat police after a gun battle. The gang members are said to be involved in a murder case in Hyderabad. A team has been to Gujarat to bring the accused on transit warrant.”
