VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra University registrar Prof. V. Umamaheswara Rao has called on the parents and other agencies concerned to give special priority to adolescents. He was speaking at the United Nations Children’s Fund workshop on “Media Consultation on Reporting on Adolescents”.

“Adolescents can be game changers and can contribute to eliminate society’s greatest challenges. Building upon the significant gains achieved during the childhood is quite vital for the future generations. By paying proper attention to the adolescents, we can prevent them from being sidetracked from their path, such as smoking, alcoholism, substance abuse, etc,” Prof. Rao said.

Prof. D.V.R. Murthy of AU Journalism Department explained the transformation and changing dynamics of media reporting over the years from 1780.
He also enlightened the attendees about the legalities involved in reporting.
Dr S. Haranath of AU Social Work Department gave a detailed account of challenges and issues involved in the adolescent stage.

“Being highly adventurous, adolescents are influenced by an array of things, including peer pressure, indecisiveness, identity crisis, body consciousness, biological changes etc,” Dr Haranath said.
