Mission Kakatiya improves water level in districts

Minister Harish Rao held a review meeting with the groundwater department officials.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government’s lake restoration programme Mission Kakatiya is also helping improve and recharge groundwater in various districts. The groundwater department, with the help of the World Bank, has taken up construction of groundwater recharge shafts and check dams in 22 villages in Nalgonda district. In Narmetta village water levels witnessed a significant jump within a gap of few months. Water levels that were 34.5 metres last year rose by 8.9 metres to reach 25.6 metres this year.

Minister Harish Rao held a review meeting with the groundwater department officials. They said that the pilot project has been taken up in the drought affected areas of Munugode constiutency in Nalgonda. They also added that the villagers have been sensitised about the usage of ground water and awareness has been created to ensure that rainwater is not wasted.
