There is no point in living, former DG BK Bansal told house help

Bansal allegedly hanged himself along with his son at their residence with a purported suicide note claiming 'harassment' by CBI.

New Delhi: Former Director General Corporate Affairs BK Bansal, who along with his son allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday, had visited CBI headquarters on Monday to submit some papers but he was not summoned by the agency's investigation team which is probing allegations of corruption against him.

CBI sources said Bansal did visit the agency headquarters on Monday to furnish some document but he was neither summoned formally nor called informally to visit.

Bansal allegedly hanged himself along with his son at their residence with a purported suicide note claiming "harassment" by CBI, barely two months after his wife and daughter ended their lives following his arrest in the alleged corruption case.

"We are deeply saddened to know the unfortunate demise of B K Bansal and his son today. The matter is being looked into by the local police," CBI spokesperson R K Gaur said.

He said Bansal, then DG in Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs, was an accused in a bribery case in which he was arrested on July 16, 2016.

Gaur said Bansal was granted interim bail from July 20, 2016 to August 21, 2016 and thereafter he was granted regular bail on August 30, 2016.

"The case is under investigation. Further, the son of B K Bansal was neither an accused nor was he summoned by the CBI in the ongoing bribery investigation," Gaur said.

BK Bansal and his son also told their 17-year-old maid they were going away for a long time, said a report.

"They told me they would be home late, so they would leave the door open for me," said Rachna, according to a report.

The house help said that she saw BK Bansal and Yogesh Bansal’s bodies when she returned. She rushed to inform the guard, and fainted afterwards.

The maid claimed that Yogesh told her that the CBI said 'wherever you hide, we will find you.' She claimed that Yogesh and BK Bansal went to the CBI office almost every day since the latter's bail in August.

"On Monday evening, Yogesh told me that they could be going out of town for six months. Mr Bansal said they had been to the CBI that day and would go again to give documents. They asked me to come late the next day." Rachna added that BK Bansal would often say that since his wife and daughter were dead, there was no point living any more.

On July 19, she was the first to see Bansal's wife Satyabala and daughter Neha, hanging in the same rooms.

Meanwhile, sources said Bansal had allegedly claimed harassment by a CBI DIG and three other officers.

However, the agency said it has not received any complaint or reference in this regard from the Delhi Police. It said the copy of the suicide note has also not been received by the agency.
