Karnataka: Farmers continue stir for Cauvery water

Randeep made the plea during his visit to CADA Office, the venue of protest by farmers, today.

MYSURU: Farmers led by JD (S) legislator of KR Nagar, Sa Ra Mahesh, continued their protest for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday demanding release of water for irrigation despite an assurance by deputy commissioner D Randeep that a decision on the issue would be taken by Cauvery advisory committee on Friday.

Mr Randeep made the plea during his visit to CADA Office, the venue of protest by farmers, today. Water, however, continued to flow to Tamil Nadu though the level of water in KRS was low while it was ten feet short of the full capacity in Kabini.

Kodagu recorded 6.6 mm rainfall on Thursday. Since January to July 27, it has recorded 1192.98 mm as against 1140.43 mm during the corresponding period last year.

At KRS, the inflow was 6177 cusecs, while the outflow to the canal leading to Tamil Nadu was 4058 cusecs. Water level in the reservoir stood at 89.40 feet as against its maximum capacity of 124.80 feet on Thursday. At Kabini, the inflow was 4210 cusecs, while 6000 cusecs was released to the canal leading to Tamil Nadu.
