Hussain Madavoor: Muslims can fully practise their faith

The recent missing of 21 youth from Kerala could be linked to their going to a kind of Sufism, says Madavoor.

Kozhikode: The All-India Islahi movement sought to dispel prejudices about Muslims in society here on Wednesday.

“There are no circumstances in India that prevent a Muslim from leading an entirely religious life according to his beliefs. The migration to extreme spirituality was due to not learning religion from the source,” said Dr Hussain Madavoor, general secretary of All-India Islahi movement.

Speaking at a convention organised by Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen (KNM-Madavoor faction), “Pluralism, Neo-Salafism, Terrorism”, here on Wednesday, he said over spirituality would lead to religious insanity.

Mr Madavoor claimed that Mujahid movement had realised it much earlier that extreme spirituality would create tension in a pluralistic society.

“The recent missing of 21 youth from Kerala could be linked to their going to a kind of Sufism,” he said.

“We cannot now use the same kind of dress, vehicle and mode of building construction prevalent during the time of Prophet,” he added.

KNM general secretary M. Salahuddin Madani said the attempt to hold the Salafi movement responsible for the extreme spirituality should not be allowed.

“It is hard to digest the religious concept of those who left Kerala. History will not forgive them. Kerala is much better for Muslims to live in, compared to many other states,” he said.

KNM state president C.P. Umar Sullami, O. Abdulla, A. Sajeevan, Mujeeb Rahman Kinalur and others spoke.
