Telangana judicial officers' initiative' is a first

Never before had judicial officers sought justice to lawkeepers.

Hyderabad: Two significant developments took place in the past 24 hours in TS which are considered unprecedented in the history of the country’s judiciary.

All 120 judicial officers, who are natives of TS, have reportedly decided to resign from their posts stating that they are unable to bear the injustice meted out to them.

They took out a silent procession from Gun Park to the Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum to the Governor asking him to do justice to them in allocation of subordinated judicial officers between TS and AP. Their rally resulted in suspension of two office bearers of Telangana Judicial Officers Association.

The subordinate judicial officers have decided to go on mass casual leave from June 28, which may paralyse the proceedings in the subordinate courts across the state.

It may be mentioned here that in view of the frequent agitations by lawyers across the country and the Supreme Court, the Apex Court, in Harish Uppal versus Union of India case, declared the strike by advocates as illegal.

T-advocate who tried self-immolation saved
An advocate practising at the City Civil Courts of Hyderabad on Monday tried to immolate himself in front of the court complex, protesting against the suspension of two judicial officers of TS for taking out a silent rally against allocation of subordinate judicial officers between TS and AP.

Tirumala Rao, a resident of the city, who was present while T-advocates were staging a protest, suddenly snatched a bottle filled with kerosene brought to burn effigies of Andhra native judges, doused himself with it and struck a match.

Other advocates who were at the spot managed to save Mr Rao before the flames engulfed him and rushed him to a hospital at Darusshifa. The doctors there said that Mr Rao sustained minor burn injuries and his condition was out of danger.

Mir Chowk police reached the hospital and recorded Mr Rao’s statement, in which he said that attempted to kill himself in protest against the injustice caused to state’s legal fraternity even after formation of Telangana. The police registered an attempt-to-suicide case against him.
