Ola, Uber drivers to RTO: Target companies, not us

Around 10,000 cab drivers from across the state took part in the protest.

Bengaluru: Ola and Uber drivers held a mammoth protest at Freedom Park on Friday, demanding that the Transport Department should not take action against them, but against the officials of the Ola and Uber companies, which are responsible for issues related to licence.

Around 10,000 cab drivers from across the state took part in the protest. Mr G. Narayana Swamy, president, State Vehicle Drivers’ Union, alleged that the drivers are becoming an easy target for both the transport department and cab aggregators. "We have statewide licences, so the department cannot seize our vehicles. Let the government take legal action against the service providers," he said.

All the drivers attached to the cab aggregators have bought cabs through bank loans. "Now companies are safe, but poor drivers are becoming loan defaulters. The state government should intervene immediately,” he said.

A case has been registered against cab aggregators at the HAL police station. "We want the state government to hold an inquiry and solve the deadlock," he said. Meanwhile on Saturday, cab drivers will hold another protest at Anand Rao Circle.
