Madurai: A special team comprising senior election officials seized '50 lakh of unaccounted money from a person near Chittampatti toll gate near Madurai on Wednesday morning.
Based on a tip off that a person was travelling with '50 lakh in a private bus, the district collector Veera Raghava Rao formed a special team to nab him. When they checked the private buses heading towards Madurai from Chennai near the toll gate, they found a person named Radha carrying Rs 50 lakh, said the collector.
Radha, who is working in a private hotel in Madurai, told the officials that a person in Chennai has asked him to deliver the said amount to another person in the temple city. The officials have deposited the money in the district treasury and handed over the case to income-tax officials for further investigation.
