Coast Guard bids adieu to its commander

On recent developments, the commander said Coast Guard has acquired over 100 acres of land in the region for infrastructural development.

Chennai: As part of the silver jubilee celebrations and to bid farewell to their higher rank official, Coast Guard Eastern Region on Wednesday displayed various fleet on board.

A fleet of nine coast guard ships and aircrafts including ICGS Sagar, Samudra Paharedar, Vigraha, Rani Abbaka, Abheek, Raj Tarang, Anagh, C-415, C-422, two dorniers- CG772 & 774 and Chetak Helo CG 801 displayed a combat formation to celebrate the retirement of Commander of Coast Guard region (East) inspector general S.P. Sharma.

Acknowledging the Coast Guard’s achievements in the recent years, Sharma briefed about the infrastructural growth to support the operations both ashore and afloat. “Recent inclusion of 33 surveillance ships, four aircrafts and three helicopters after decommissioning the old ships have added more teeth to the operations,” he pointed out.

On recent developments, the commander said Coast Guard has acquired over 100 acres of land in the region for infrastructural development. “About 60 acres of land from Thootukudi, 35 acres from Puducherry and 20 acres from Visak hapatnam were acqu ired through land acquisition Act,” Sharma said.
