Guntur: Mangalagiri police arrested three persons and recovered 42 fighter breed cocks at Yerrabalem on Monday.
These cocks are allegedly being grown for the cockfights during the Sankranti season. On a tip off, Mangalagiri Rural police raided the fields where the fighting cocks were being grown in Yerrabalem village and M. Sitaramarao, B. Ragavaiah, P. Daramarao were taken into custody.
According to the police, the price of the fighting cocks ranges from Rs 2,000 to Rs 1 lakh, depending upon their breed, colour and other features.
In another incident, the Mangalagiri police also arrested four persons for playing cards in the fields and seized Rs 43,000 and four cell phones from them.
