Bengaluru: Two major rallies, one jointly by Congress and left parties and the other by RSS, will be held in the city on Monday, amid a Bharat bandh called by opposition parties against the Central government’s demonetisation of currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations.

According to the sources, while Congress, left parties, various labor unions, OBC and dalit organisations are planning to hold march in the city against demonetization, RSS and its affiliated organisations would hold Vijayotsav programmes to honour bank and postal department officials.

The Yuva Brigade has organised a week-long event across the state to create awareness among the general public over the rationale behind the demonetisation decision. Brigade advisor Chakravathy Sulibele is expected to address these events.

BBMP to function on Sunday:

In the winter session of Karnataka legislature which commenced on Monday, over 26 questions relating to BBMP are awaiting answers. Keeping in mind the Bharat bandh, the BBMP officers will work on Sunday. BBMP Special commissioner (administration and planning) has passed an order, directing all BBMP officials and staff to work on Sunday and prepare answers to be questions that will be raised in the session.
