Hyderabad: Residents rue Secunderabad Cantonment Board linking drain with lake

This time they are constructing a line with a higher capacity and the work started on Thursday.

Hyderabad: Violating the High Court orders of not adding any sewage line or industrial waste into the city lakes, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board is constructing a drainage line, which leads the sewage pipeline directly into the already polluted lake.

This time they are constructing a line with a higher capacity and the work started on Thursday.

Residents lament that the lake has already been polluted and the authorities are spoiling it further instead of taking care of it and improving the quality of water.

Mr Venkata Ramana, a resident of Trimulgherry, whose house is beside the lake mentioned, “They have been constructing a new sewage pipeline into the lake, instead of diverting the existing ones. The health of the residents here is directly proportional to the pollution levels of the lake and we wish authorities could remember that and plan things accordingly.”

Another senior resident of Trimulgherry, Mr Madhusudhan Rao, who is also a contractor in the water works mentioned, “It’s not even a slope that the sewage water would run off. If the water level rises in the rainy season, then the water gushes back into the pipeline and eventually fills up the colony. Residents would be troubled due to the leaks as it would
raise a stench.”

Now they are using a two feet pipeline to construct it. It was mentioned that the construction is being done to clear the existing drainage lines.
