Hyderabad High Court issues notice on district claims

For any change to zones, the state government must take permission as per Article 371-D.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Telangana state government in two separate petitions challenging final notifications issued for formation of Siddipet district and Korutla revenue division.

Justice C. Praveen Kumar was dealing with a petition by Advocates’ Association, Husnabad, represented by its secretary Bakam Sampath Kumar, against the government ignoring the objections raised by the petitioners associations’ and including Husnabad and Koheda revenue mandals in Siddipet district.

Another petition filed by the Korutla Revenue Division Sadhana Samithi challenged the inclusion of Metpalli revenue division in Jagityal district.

Mr Sarasanai Satyam Reddy, senior counsel appearing for the Korutla samithi, contended that despite the recommendation of the collector to constitute Korutla revenue division and more than 20,000 objections against the formation of Metpally as a revenue division, the government had issued the notification for its political gains.

M.V. Rajaram, counsel for the Advocates’ Association submitted that the action of the government was against the Presidential Order and contrary to Telangana State Districts (Formation Act, 1974).

He said that as per the Presidential Order, Husnabad and Koheda revenue mandals were in Zone-V whereas Siddipet district was in Zone-VI. For any change to zones, the state government must take permission as per Article 371-D. Else, such changes breach the very purpose of the introduction of zonal system. The judged issued notices to the respondents.
