Not a single house built, Vizag MLAs fume at officials

Murthy said 1,250 houses were sanctioned for his constituency but not a single house could be completed so far.

Visakhapatnam: All the district MLAs fumed at the officials in the presence of HRD minister Ganta Srinivas Rao and Vizag MP K. Haribabu for not grounding even a single house for poor since the last two years the TD came to power. At a review meeting on housing in the collectorate here on Friday, former minister and Pendurthy MLA Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy said 1,250 houses were sanctioned for his constituency but not a single house could be completed so far. Of the 1,250 houses, 300 were cancelled.

Vizag south MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar said 3,000 houses were sanctioned for his constituency but not a single house was given to beneficiaries. He said GVMC officials were claiming that construction is being delayed due to non-availability of land. Vizag west MLA P.V.G.R. Naidu, as per GO No. 296 houses built within 100 square yards were being regularised but questioned about the fate of people having houses in more than 100 square yards.

Anakapalle MLA Peela Govind Satyanarayana told the minister that seven villages under Koppala, Rajupalem and Villur panchayats were merged with the GVMC but they are not found listed in the corporation website. The villages are neither getting benefits from the GVMC nor from the state rural schemes. He demanded that the officials should clarify whether they come under GVMC or rural district so that housing schemes can be sanctioned accordingly.

Taking serious view of the complaints, minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said six lakh houses would be built by next year for both urban and rural beneficiaries. The minister asked the district collector to start works on the houses from September 20.
