Agama Shastra pandits against live telecast: TTD to Hyderabad High Court

Counsel for the petitioner said the TTD had earlier telecast the fete in its TV channel.

Hyderabad: The Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams on Thursday informed the Hyderabad High Court that the advisory council of Agama Shastra pandits had opined that the shastras would not permit the live telecast and photography of the Maha Samprokshanam fete scheduled from August 9 to 17 in the Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil Bhaskaran Nair Radhakrishnan and Justice V. Ramasubramanian was dealing with a PIL seeking live telecast of the celebration through the SV Bhakti TV channel in view of the decision of the TTD not to allow devotees during the fete.

Counsel for the petitioner said that there were not asking for live telecast of the rituals performed in the sanctum sanctorum but only of the Samprokshanam which would be performed at the yagasala. He said the TTD had earlier telecast the fete in its TV channel.
