Coimbatore: NGO works for beggar-free Kovai

A source from Food Bank stated that all initiatives and activities of the organisation are aimed at achieving a ‘Beggar-free City’.

Coimbatore: Food Bank Coimbatore, a non-profit organisation, as part of World Hunger Day celebrations distributed food packets to the needy in multiple locations in the textile city.

As many as 30 volunteers gathered at VOC Park. Volunteers collected 1,000 packets of food, biscuits and water bottles from kind donors and embarked on their food distribution drive.

Under the leadership of B. Vaishnavee, founder of the organisation, the team of volunteers visited old-age, orphanage and shelter homes in the city and distributed food to the inmates. A section of volunteers also visited homeless individuals in areas like Saravanampatti, Peelamedu, Town Hall and Gandhipuram and handed over packets of food to those who cannot afford the same.

A source from Food Bank stated that all initiatives and activities of the organisation are aimed at achieving a ‘Beggar-free City’. As part of the observances, the NGO has planned a series of competitions on theme ‘Solutions for a Hunger-Free Nation’. World Hunger Day is observed on May 28.
