Chennai: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Saturday released the results for Class 12 exams on Saturday. M. Shruthi of DAV Girls Senior Secondary School in Chennai scored 495 out of 500 marks.
W.Pranathi also from the same school got 493 out of 500 marks in the exams. While Shruthi scored two centums in Maths and Computer Science, Pranathi scored 99 in four subjects except in English. Both students said they wanted to pursue engineering in their higher studies. They also said physics was tough compared to other exams this year.
The schools in the city witnessed an increase in the number of centums as a majority of schools have at least one student who has scored full marks in one of the subjects.
The schools also had a majority of students getting marks above 75 per cent this year.
Despite conducting re-exam for economics subject after the question paper leak, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the class 12 results as per schedule on Saturday. Over 11 lakh students appeared for the exams conducted from March 5 to April 27.
The pass percentage is 83.01 – an increase of one percent compared to last year. Like previous years, the girls outperformed the boys and there is 9.32 per cent gap between the performance of boys and girls. The pass percentage of boys is 88.31 per cent and girls 78.99 per cent.
This year 12,737 students scored 95 per cent and above marks. Among the regions, Thiruvananthapuram topped with 97.32 per cent pass followed by Chennai and Delhi regions with 93.87 per cent and 89 per cent. Noida student Meghna Srivastava got 499 out of 500 marks and emerged all India topper . Anoushka Chandra fro Ghaziabad's SAJ School got 498 marks to come second and seven students shared the third spot with 497 marks. But, no student from Tamil Nadu was able to get the top three ranks.
A. Vijay Ganesh from Palakkad scored 492 marks to get top rank among the differently abled category. This year 91,818 students failed in one of the five subjects and placed in compartment.
Toppers aim for engineering stream
Sidhharth Srinivasan from Maharishi Vidya Mandir School in Chetpet who scored 492 out of 500 marks said he would like to pursue engineering in one of the top IITs in the country.
The school topper is waiting for JEE (advanced) results. “I got 1,037th rank in JEE (main) exam and confident of getting good rank in JEE (advanced),” he said. He had scored centums in Maths, Computer Science and 99 in Physics and 98 in Chemistry.
He said in the board exams physics was lengthier compared to other exams.
Miriam Santhosh Kadavan, a school topper from SBOA School and Junior College also prefers to join in an engineering course. “I would like to study either computer science or electrical course,” she said. She got 491 out of 500 marks with centum in computer science subject.
