Hyderabad: Following the bitter experiences during heavy rains in September and October of last year, the GHMC, in coordination with irrigation, revenue and other departments, will be constructing rainwater drains at colonies susceptible to inundation like Bandari Layout, Datri Nagar in Kukatpally and Manasa Sarovar Heights in Hasmathpet.
An official from engineering wing said that Rs 1.49 crore would be spent in Circle 14A and Rs 1.01 crore in Circle 14B. “We have already completed a few minor works at these colonies. Once the tender process completes, we will begin rainwater drain works, widening of existing nalas and installing pipelines against open nalas,” the official said.
In Circle 14A, officials have earlier finished seven works of rainwater drains and Hyderabad Metro Rail constructed a culvert at Kali Mandir Junction and near Kalyaninagar nala in Balanagar.
Backwater from the Kalyaninagar nala during heavy rains has been resulting in inundation in surrounding colonies.
An official said that the GHMC will take up works after the tender process at Bhagat Singh Nagar Phase-I, Indu Projects, BSNL Junction in KPHB, near Malaysia Township, Goods Shed Road in Moosapet and at IDL Tank area.
“The open nala is creating inundated situation during rainy season and we will install pipelines along the nala to overcome such situations,” the official said.
In Circle 14B, officials will lay new pipelines along open drain at National Highway and Y-Junction to Prashanth Nagar Bus Stand. “GHMC has sanctioned Rs 45 lakh more for the construction of rainwater drain at Manasarovar Heights in Hasmathpet,” the official said. Officials expect the works to be completed by the end of July.
