Uninterrupted power supply during summer by AP government

Mr Vijayanand said that in order to meet the generation targets, abundant coal supply would be required.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Government is gearing up to supply uninterrupted power to consumers in the state, even during peak summer. They plan to provide 24 hours of power supply to domestic, commercial and industrial connections and 7 hours of supply to agricultural connections.

APGENCO is preparing to enhance its thermal generation capacities, to enable the DISCOMs to meet any additional energy demands, even to the tune of 200 MU per day. Anticipating future requirements in the state, APGENCO has taken up a plan to increase its capacity by 11,670 MW over the next 10 years, at a total estimated cost of '84,000 crore.

Addressing the officials of the power sector, AP Transco CMD K. Vijayanand said that the government of AP was keen on constituting a committee to study the best global practices and latest IT initiatives in thermal generation in Germany, and in transmission and distribution in Japan, to further enhance efficiency of AP utilities in these sectors.

Mr Vijayanand said that in order to meet the generation targets, abundant coal supply would be required. He added that APGENCO had been allotted coal linkages of 10.192 million tonne per annum from M/s Mahanadi Coal Limited, and 3.88 MTPA from M/s Singareni Colleries Company Limited. Additionally, a MoU has recently been entered into with M/s SCCL, for the allotment of an additional 5 MTPA.
