Bengaluru: Tension as cops enter ISEC women's hostel

According to the research scholars, no woman constables accompanied the police officials during their visit.

Bengaluru: There was tension in Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) campus at Nagarabhavi on Sunday evening, after some research scholars alleged that some male police officials had entered the women’s hostel under the pretext of investigating a complaint.

According to the research scholars, no woman constables accompanied the police officials during their visit. "The police claim they entered to carry out an investigation, but how fair it is to enter women’s hostel without even a women constable," questioned a research scholar. Senior officials of the institute were not available for reaction.

Research scholars at ISEC have been on the warpath against various decisions taken by the authorities. They are planning to hold a protest in front of Director’s office demanding immediate roll back of recent decisions, including cut in fellowships and scholarships. "Director Chandrakanth M.G. is taking decisions arbitrarily. Even after our protest on founder's day, he has not changed his style of function. So we have decided to continue our struggle,” said a research scholar.

According to the sources, from last few months, ISEC campus has been facing protest by research scholars. "They alleged the Director was acting at the behest of Union Human Resources Ministry. Another allegation is that the institute has become anti-Dalit and anti-minority," said a source.
