Hyderabad: Yogi Bear park is under scanner

Around 1 acre was allocated to the park by the state tourism department. Later the area was handed over to HMDA.

Hyderabad: After Dr Cars, the HMDA is examining the case of the Yogi Bear Mini Golf Park adjacent to Sanjeevaiah Park on Necklace Road, for paying less rent to the corporation and operating beyond its lease period.

Around 1 acre was allocated to the park by the state tourism department. Later the area was handed over to HMDA. The HMDA had issued notices to the management to vacate the premises; however, the park management had gone to court, which directed it to clear the pending dues.

The HMDA had leased out land to the park at a price lower than the market rate, but it is unable to shift them out due to court orders.

A senior official of HMDA’s Buddha Purnima Project wing, that governs activities around the Hussain-sagar, said, “The tourism department leased out an acre to the park in 2006 on a build-operate-transfer basis. Later the entire area around Hussainsagar was handed over to HMDA-BPP. The lease the park ended long ago, however, BPP kept extending it. In 2011, BPP served the park management a notice to vacate the premises. However, the owner approached the court and got a stay. Over the last 10 years, the management has been paying '5 lakh towards rent for an acre.”

He added, “Though the court had announced judgement in favour of the HMDA to take control of the land, the owner filed a petition for additional time. Through the tender process, another private party has been granted permission to operate on the land with a rent of Rs 36 lakh per month.”

Meanwhile the management of Dr Cars has filed a petition in court seeking more time to vacate the premises; over 300 cars are yet to be shifted out. The HMDA had ordered the car dealer to move out following court orders.
