Rains back to haunt Bengaluru, several areas flooded

Regular poojas and daily rituals were suspended and BBMP workers were pressed into service to pump out the water.

Bengaluru: Rains that had given Bengalureans a respite is back. Heavy rains across the city on Sunday night flooded many areas and also left the city's famous Annamma Devi Temple at Majestic.

Regular poojas and daily rituals were suspended and BBMP workers were pressed into service to pump out the water. Shanthinagar, Shivananda Circle, Jayanagar, Sadashiva Nagar, Wilson Garden, Malleswaram, Yelahanka and other areas were flooded.

Seshadripuram underpass flooded again
The Seshadripuram railway underpass was flooded again. Two cars that were stuck in water in the underpass were pulled out with the help of earthmovers and the BBMP had to put up barricades and completely close the road for commuters.

Mudslide on Magadi Road, traffic goes haywire
Traffic went out of gear on Magadi Road after a mudslide near Sumanahalli Circle on the busy and narrow road. The BBMP control room said that there were no casualties except for tree fall at three different locations in the city.

Rains are here to stay
According to officials from the Indian Meteorological Department, the city recorded 99.5mm rainfall on Monday morning. They attributed the rains to a depression over Bay of Bengal. “The Southwest monsoon is active in the region and is set to bring more rains to the city over the next few days,” they said.
