Water stagnates due to rain in Prajashaktinagar

Life gets misarable for the people if it rains even in small amount.

Vijayawada: Prajashaktinagar in Mogalrajapuram, which is one of the busiest areas of Vijayawada city, is in desperate wait for the municipal authorities.

The drains in the area are in a sorry state, often getting overflowed on to the roads. Life gets misarable for the people if it rains even in small amount. The roads get inundated with the rain water causing traffic jams.

There is literally no maintenance of drains in the area, said an anguished resident B. Madhava Rao. He said the drains have become breeding ground for mosquitoes and many people are suffering from vector-borne diseases. The traffic will become chaotic if it rains as the entire water will stagnate on roads only and it takes days to recede into the drains, he added.

With the presence of many commercial establishments, schools and colleges in the adjoining area, traffic has increased manifold in the recent past, said another resident Rajya-laxmi.

It has become very difficult for the pedestrians as there are no footpaths at all, she observed. The foul smell coming from the stuck up drains is unbearable, she said.

Though roads were laid for the recently concluded Krishna Pushkaralu, they have already developed patches. As the laying of the roads was left in the middle with only one layer and the final layer was pending, pebbles are coming out from the tar.

When contacted, a senior official in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, said that the roads construction is going in a phased manner and the rains have affected the works.

He said sewerage problem is there at many places in the city and has aggravated with the rains. As the city is going to get its underground drainage system all the problems will get resolved in due course of time. “We are trying our best with our resources to resolve the problems,” he added.
