Police call IT department to build a cyber security system in Vijayawada

The call given by the police commissioner to the IT industry is a welcome development.

Vijayawada: City police commissioner Gautam Sawang has given a call to the information technology industry to collaborate with the police department to build a cyber security system exclusively for the city police.

Keeping in view the rate of increase in cyber crimes, the department has set up a cyber police station which will start working very soon. The commissioner has extended an open invitation to the IT experts to join hands with the police to build an intelligent cyber security system.

A team comprising an assistant commissioner of police, two inspectors, four SIs, six head constables and 24 constables will be discharging duties under the cyber police station, Mr Sawang said. With five principles of capacity-building, consistency, uniformity, sustainability and cohesiveness, the commissioner has designed this team. He said that it is an infant baby now, and very soon this will start yielding fast results in the detection of cyber crime.

“In this context, I urge the intellectuals from IT industry to come and collaborate with us, in order to design an ultimate cyber security system for Vijayawada city police,” the commissioner said, and added that already they have collaborated with ESF technologies, who have been training police personnel and building security systems. He said that for a constant and continuous education and training programme in cyber crime and cyber forensic concepts, he is giving a call to IT experts to collaborate with the city police.

After the division of the state, the AP Forensic Science Laboratory got diluted and similarly, CID duty pattern also has been distracted, according to High Court advocate Chandu Sreenivasa Rao, who is dealing with cyber laws. This is leading to disarray among the staff working in those two institutions, according to a middle-level police officer.

The call given by the police commissioner to the IT industry is a welcome development, IT expert Tilak Amarneni felt, and expressed hope that IT industry would turn positive to the call of the top cop.
